Sourdough Bread

I've made about ten loaves so far, and got frustrated, because my starter isn't active enough. It seems it doesn't have enough lactobacillus that consumes flour to make sugar; thus, it doesn't make enough yeast to make the bread rise. I've looked at several youtube videos, improved my care of the starter, and still no bingo.
