Paraplegic / Quadriplegic
to meet someone with the same disability
My family was in a car accident when I was 16, leaving everyone in my family with various injuries. I am a C1-C5 and T8-T11 quadriplegic. I was recently two years have passed since the accident, and I was recently sent home from the hospital. I am trying to navigate my new life as a disabled (and depressed) person.
None
My whole family can be considered my hero because they were in the crash with me, but I am going to dedicate this account to my brother, Brody. He had the worst of the accident, with injuries including:
-fractures going straight down his C1-T2 vertebra (obviously a quadriplegic)
-fractures on his skull
-traumatic and severe brain injury (loss of sight, speech, and memory, and minor hearing loss)
-3rd degree burns along arms and legs, requiring amputation.
-broken ribs
Brody lived miraculously 2 months after the accident, all of the time spent in a coma. We knew that he would never be able to live very long, but the time he was able to fight for his life was amazing.
