newbie

hi everybody, i have been checking out penpal websites when i came across this one. this one is more to my liking.
i do not have any disabilities other than age related ones. but i do have a number of friends that have an assortment of disabilities. i value their friendship and the pleasure of their company. i do what i can to help them.
i am interested in the vast amount of different disabilities that abound today.
so, if you can help me out in any way i would be grateful.

Hello Pete. Happy New year. I have now been disabled for just over a year and found the whole experience frustrating, depressing and almost the end of my lifeat first but I am gradually adjusting to a totally different way of living. Luckily for me or unluckily I am older but disability and the complete life change stinks. Added to this equation is the intransigence of social workers, Community Health Workers and physiotheapists. I am reasonably articulate but how some cope I do not know. Being spoken down to, treated like an idiot and then being offered none or no practical help. Hopefully those you know have had better experiences. I have heard harrowing stories and anecdotes of people being forced back to work when they are patently not able to work. It would seem to me that in this country unless you are feckless everything has to be fought for. The poloticians in this Government pay lip service only to disability. It has been a real eye-opener and tested my belief in the powers to be. How the young disabled cope I do not know. Life is hard enough. This site has been a life line to me but you only get what you put into it or are able to contribute. I wish you well. Disgruntled! Believe it or not I do have a sense of humour!

hi , maria. i am pleased to meet you. i am a newbie on this site and i am still finding my way around. my desktop is tied up at the moment with long downloads so i am using my wifes laptop. i live near cannock. middway between stafford and lichfield..
where abouts to you live. the reason that i ask is as an ex truck driver i like to know the places of people that i am in contact with. i go on to google earth and wonder around the area.
