Hi all. My name is Richard. I’m based in the UK. There’s a little about me in my profile. I am new to ablehere but have already had a chat with another member and enjoyed that experience. I deal with multiple health issues and have been dealing with these issues since the early 2000’s (Well I say ‘dealing with’ I think its safe to say ‘living with’ is more accurate) I try to stay as positive as I can and stay on the sunnier side of life but being housebound brings certain problems such as socialising and meeting other people just for a simple chat. Even though I’ve been disabled for just over two decades this is the first time I’ve tried to find other people to talk to about life in general and a little bit of companionship from people who are probably in a similar situation and can relate to how things are. If I am being honest now that my children are all grown up and now live a distance away from me I feel a little lonely and because I no longer work miss the general day to day chit chat of people and what’s happening in the world around us and just generally sharing a laugh and a few interest’s with other people. I guess I’ve just gotten to the Shirley Valentine stage in my life and talking to the wall just isn’t what it used to be - “Hello Wall”. I try to keep an open mind and find common ground with people and be mindful of others. I like finding out about new subjects/topics particularly those that I have no or very little knowledge about. As an ex programmer/analyst a huge part of what I did for a living was starting new projects with people and finding out about new topics and what they did and finding solutions to help with the work people did. It’s odd (almost ironic) that for someone that was at ease with people I now find myself at the opposite end being a person with extreme anxiety, lacking confidence and the ability to even face people in face to face situations. I keep odd hours due to the health issues I face and have fluctuating conditions that don’t really allow me to plan very well in advance. That sometimes appears to others that I am unreliable or flaky – what is actually happening is that I’m just rolling on an hour to hour, day by day basis of what the current day is like – be that extremely bad or extremely good or any other type of day in between those two extremes. So if you do drop by to say ‘hi’ or leave a message and don’t get a response please don’t think I am ignoring you on purpose. I think I’ve waffled on long enough now Oh and I like cheesy jokes I mean really silly ‘Dad’ type jokes. Since this is an introduction and a type of hello from me here’s a hopefully on topic cheesy joke. Why did Adele cross the road ? To say hello from the other side! Have the best day you all can. Richard.
