MENIFEE: Home improvement grants offered to disabled, elderly

JUNE 21, 2013 BY PETER SUROWSKI

The city of Menifee is offering grants to low-income residents older than 61 years and homeowners with disabled family members through its Minor Home Rehabilitation Grant.

The grants pay for projects that make the home more accessible, safe and healthy, according to a city press release.

Homeowners who meet the income and asset requirements may receive a grant of up to $10,000. Eligible improvements include improvements to bathrooms, kitchens and entrances which will help the elderly and disabled residents, safety improvements to roofs, windows, electrical systems, plumbing, bathrooms and stairways and the correction of code violations.

These grants come from the Department of Housing and Urban Development through the city’s Community Development Block Grant Program, which provides funding to services benefitting low- and moderate-income residents.

Menifee will grant $120,000 per year to qualified applicants on a first-come, first-serve basis, according to the release.

An application guide is available at Menifee City Hall, 29714 Haun Road and on the city’s website, www.cityofmenifee.us .
