Holiday ruined after wheelchair broken on plane

A disabled man said his holiday was "ruined" after his bespoke £20k  wheelchair was damaged on a plane after it was not secured in the luggage hold and rolled around throughout the flight.

Airlines really need to understand how important mobility equipment is and handle it with the same care they would for any essential item. When I travel I always try to contact the airline beforehand to confirm how they manage wheelchairs and sometimes I arrange accessible transportation  at my destination to make things smoother. Did the airline at least offer any quick help or compensation after the damage happened?
