Simple answer.....Its was started by the Church in days before C of E to encourage the locals to give as much as possible to the Church and cleans themselves of the Evil of money....Robbing Gits xxxx;) :whistle:

More of an 1800 proverb ...used by the military (Lancers ) to ensure jobs were done correctly...as in..Its no good shutting the stable door after horse has bolted...Too late then...Check first xxxx :ohmy:

Fairly modern saying ( 1950s) to keep American kids in order when playing-up.......Used in a form by Hotpoint to advertise their Fridges..There will be tears before Hotpoint .... xxxx;) :whistle:
