How is the karma worked out?

I noticed when you put a post up on the the forum next to your name it shows how many posts you have added and below that it says Karma, what is that all about and how is it worked out? Would be grateful to know how it works, could someone explain it to me!!

Hi...The Karma is often missed by others who read your item....I have given you your first as an applause ( thumbs up).......if an entry is not well recieved it might get a thumbs down by a reader xxxx Hope that helps

I'm getting used to things better now, and learning new things about the site everyday!:cheer:Thank you for helping me understand, I appreciate it. I am also getting my friends from another disabled networking site to move over to here as it is alot better!!
