Does anyone have an assistance dog? What sort of things do they help you with? How do you go about getting one?

I used to, many years ago, until the rsPCA got their filthy mitts on him.

Harles used to help me wiv the washing (out of machine and hand me the pegs when hanging it on the line), pick stuff up off the floor wot I'd dropped, get the mail, open doors, get the phone, alert me when alarms were about to go off (he always knew), help with dressing, etc etc.

I called up the Dogs for the Disabled and asked them.

I'm looking at getting one, hey Posh why was he taken?, they shouldn't have the right to take a helper dog off you like that.

Hi, I have a nearly qualified assistance dogs trained by Support Dogs, they train your own pet dog (they do provide ready trained autism and seizure alert dogs) and you complete the training at home, which is the point we are at now.

Woody empties the washing m achine, pulls clothes off for me, picks things up, opens and closes doors and pays in shops. One of his main roles for me has been to increase my confidence to go out and indeed travel alone.
