My name is Karl Dean and did a research study with Barnsley Hospital and Sheffield University, the study was on Speech Recognition Technology which can learn to recognise a set of words or sounds spoken by an individual with very poor speech like myself, and connect these with a clear spoken output, known as Voice Input Voice Output Communication Aids. This study was to find out more about who will benefit from this technology, how will I use it, and what support I need to use it. This will help to ensure that the people who could benefit from this technology get the chance to try it and get the support they need to use it.
I was amazed the technology could understand me as only close people can understand me, such as my sisters, carers, and my best friends. But the technology didn’t work in loud places and outside. If they could fix this problem, it could replace my talker. Who knows what the future will bring. Here is the animation video of me
