Drunk on mobility scooter
A disabled man was stopped by police for being three times the limit while riding his mobility scooter at 3mph.
Thomas Lowry, 59, had a half-drunk bottle of vodka in the buggy's basket.
He had ridden off the pavement to avoid an obstruction. Cars then swerved to avoid him.
If he had stayed on the path he would have not been prosecuted.
Magistrates in Burnley, Lancs, heard that Lowry had been upset over the death of his wife.
But they were unable to ban him from riding his scooter as a licence or insurance is not needed.
He was banned from driving a car for three years - although he is unable to due to his disabilities.
Lowry said: \"What I did was wrong, but the police were a bit over the top.\"
