I don't understand this ice bucket challenge, why did it start? Is there a purpose to it all? Am I silly for not understanding it?

It's crazy but I only heard about 'the ice bucket challenge' when these celebrities where posting them on twitter and then my sister & niece did it. It was like I was sick in bed for 2 weeks not touching my computer then I turn it on and it's all about 'the Ice Bucket Challenge'. It's a great idea to raise awareness of MND & ALS but to be honest if you ask the young people what 'The Ice Bucket Challenge' is all about and what it is to make awareness of? They wouldn't have a clue!!

I think I'll just donate I don't fancy the icy water lol xxx :blink:

Me, too. That cold water would put me in the hospital on an IV of Dilaudid. Plus I'm sure I'd get a good scolding from my doctor.

My niece did it, however. She put it on FB and everything. It hurts just to watch!

I think what is more frustrating is that people are starting to use it as a method of gaining attention for themselves rather than ALS. Just as most things that become popular, no one seemed to have a clue what the original concept was. Most people did not know that you have to donate (regardless)

ALS made millions from it. A lot more people now know about ALS.

I would say the ice bucket challenge was very successful

I think it is all fantastic. My husband lost an uncle to ALS about a year ago. He wasn't sick for very long either. It took him quickly. Also the mother of our friend had it. She chose to stay at home and our friend cared for her until she died. It is such a horrible disease, but the people we've known have met it with such bravery.

I do think it was a great idea to bring awareness to ALS but the celebrities just used it to get publicity for themselves as normal anything to get their faces on social network sites & in the press!
