Polio

Hi All

I'm new to this site.

I'm looking for friends Male of Female, disabled or not!

I am 61 years old and was struck down with polio when I was 5 years old. About 2 years later I was fitted with my first Callipers(Leg braces). In my younger days I was able to get around with the aid of axilla crutches. But know I use a wheelchair almost all the time, its less tyring. I have had several callipers over the years.

Although I am fast approaching old age I still like to wear a short skirts, showing off my callipers and built-up shoe. The only thing I don't like is when people will talk to my legs and not my face, its as if they hav'nt seen someone in a wheelchair before.

Hi Michelle, Tessa here! Remember me? We met in the chatroom a couple of days (better said nights) ago. I'll be happy to hear from you again, any time. Send me a private message if you will, and I'll answer you asap. The chat rom is very often empty, though when we met it was maybe overcrowded. In both occasions it gets pretty difficult to have a good chat with everyone present. That's why I prefer private messages.

Yep I get this all the time, its harder for me as strangers can't understand me so they think i am thick

Fortunately I push myself most of the time, but yes it has happened to me, I just say to them now "Hey I'm down her" They then look embarresed and either turn away or stare down at my braced legs.

Hi everyone, I am new to this site ( I dunno why in my profile shows last visit is 1999 lol). I hope this site is really free. As I can see that most of you are from the US or UK I hope you don't mind chatting with someone from the pacific.

I also have polio got it before I even learned how to walk and have one leg brace since then, I have a very bad gait coz of it. I am always on foot and very active thus when my back and good leg hurts, I need my crutches.

I'm here to make friends with same minded people and those of who are into the same fate, to be ready what future brings and learn from those who had been there ( rheumatism, post polio, etc )
