I met my husband on a blind date! Set up for me by a family friend. I had no idea what I was in store for. And luckily the family friend and my friend came along. In the end I got blind drunk and luckily he still thought I was worth getting to know and phoned me the next day and we've been together since!!

I met my bestest friend Alison (we were more than 'friends' for a long time, but things have now 'devolved'...). at a party. We both happened to be in the kitchen waiting for garlic bread to come out of the oven, when a moth landed in her hair. Alison hates all 'creepy-crawleys' (chronic arachnophobe) and I could see her sliding down the wall with a look of terror on her face. I removed the moth and released it out the window. Not exactly a death-defying action, but it broke the ice. Don't think I'm entitled to put "wildlife conservationist" on my C.V.
