It refers to a Con. Trick during past times when meat was a luxury item.....The pig would be sold to an unsuspecting target in a Poke ( or sack) ...In actual fact the sack would be sealed and contain a cat..or dog...or rats xxxx :whistle:

Ive always understood it to mean...children getting too excited ....so it will all end in tears unless they calm down xxxx

The adult version differs in so far that its got something to do with making someones eyes water xxxx :whistle:
